I made this the other day, it's 8 x 9 cms and mounted on a slightly larger white block. It's painted with glass powders and fused in the kiln.
I hope I will never tire of watching, drawing and painting waves. They remind me of my humanity and inspire me to look for something more...
Capturing them in glass goes a little way towards distilling that moment by the shoreline, when a sense of 'all will be well' descends.
If you would like the chance to own this little picture then just leave a comment here or share on facebook. I'll pick a Winner on Saturday.

It is truly beautiful, I can feel it, and hear it. Brings back lots of happy beachy memories!

That's gorgeous. I love the ocean waves too. we used to live at Carbis Bay Cornwall and I loved to see the waves crash to shore there. Now I'm in Dorset and things are pretty tough at the moment as I haven't been able to find anywhere for my 3 boys and I to live (the landlord is selling this house and it's gone through court to eviction) so I love to go to Poole harbour as often as I can and watch the gentle waves lap the shore there... no matter how stressed I am it always calms me down and gives me strength to believe we will find our new home soon... water can be so very therapeutic for the soul :-)

Thank you... I hope that stressful situation gets resolved soon for you... And that you get lots of soul soothing time by the sea. Xx
DeleteI've been totally besotted with your work since I first saw it in Padstow. I was talking to two young people in Polzeath at the beach cafe on their first camping trip from London who had just bought a flat in London and really adored your long piece, but at £1000 they couldn't afford it. On their recommendation I toddled off to Padstow on the ferry to look at it. If I had seen it before the conversation I would have told them to find the money somehow- what a piece to celebrate a new home.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a huge compliment Lois. Thank you. X
ReplyDeleteLove the way this makes you feel that you are actually near the sea, absolutely gorgeous..
ReplyDeleteAs I walked along the sandy shore, the crashing waves I heard once more
ReplyDeleteThe spray I’d felt upon my face, took me to that other place
Many memories from the past
Brought back by a piece of glass!

Deletewow beautiful....the waves are so those at Bedruthan steps.
ReplyDeleteThe sea always makes me feel calm no matter how I am. I often sit and stare at the sea for hours. Unfortunately don't live by the sea but can get there in 1/2 hour. I love your work because it combines 2 of my favourite things glass and sea. Please continue!

DeleteSense of perspective is exactly what the sea gives you and your work captures it completely. I'm lucky enough to live near the sea, having fulfilled my lifetime's dream of moving to Cornwall. I have shared your page on Facebook for those of my friends who would love to be beside the sea but are stuck inland. I think for them your work is the next best thing. Just beautiful x
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, thank you very much... I'm envious of your move!
Deletewow! captures the crashing wave perfectly ... amazing picture!
