Just a few shells...

Kelvin found these lovely tiny shells on the beach this morning. I really love these sorts of colours and the patterns are amazing. Porthmeor gems.

Can't resist the close up hazy picture. iPhone fun.

Quantock skylarks

Had a little meander across the top of the quantocks today...what a lovely place. It was quite strangely quiet at the top, the mist suddenly came down but the sun was really trying to come through. It had that 'ancient' feeling, especially the woody climb up to the moor on top.

And at the top the skylarks were everywhere...we watched a couple dancing around each other about 20 feet away, singing away. Because it was so heavily quiet, their song sounded incredibly crisp, not at all like the distant 'up high' sound you normally hear.

I tried to capture some of it on my iPhone... Not great as the light was strange. But lovely anyway to visit a bit of wild Somerset!

The waves broke...

Here's a few wave paintings, on canvas and glass, from the last few months or so. I just love trying to capture not just the look of the wave but emotional response that goes with it.

And here's a little paragraph from Virginia Woolf, a favourite from art college days....

“The waves broke and spread their waters swiftly over the shore. One after another they massed themselves and fell; the spray tossed itself back with the energy of their fall. The waves were steeped deep-blue save for a pattern of diamond-pointed light on their backs which rippled as the backs of great horses ripple with muscles as they move. The waves fell; withdrew and fell again, like the thud of a great beast stamping.”
